Ukraine breaks records in the Dominican Republic
The tourism sector of the Dominican Republic is quickly recovering. During the period from January to March 2021, the country received 717 085 non-resident tourists, of which 295 453 people came from the United States. Ukraine is in the second place in the world in terms of the volume of tourist flow in the country, sending 22 604 tourists to the resorts of the Dominican Republic. Colombia closes the top three of leaders for the first quarter with 15 711 tourists.
The dynamics of the growth of the tourist flow from Ukraine should be noted separately. Last year, this country moved on the seventh position in the list of source markets in Europe, restarting flights in October from Kiev to La Romana and Punta Cana. In 2020, the country sent 20 785 travelers to the Dominican Republic, but in the first quarter of this year the flow exceeded the figures by 1 819 people (8,7%).
In March 2021, the Dominican Republic received 313 289 non-resident passengers, which is 63% more than in February 2021 and 16,01% more than in March 2020.
The positive dynamics is also noticeable in the number of flights, which in March increased by 39% compared to the previous month. Over 70% of tourists are US citizens and over 40% of them arrived at Punta Cana International Airport.
In March, the average duration of stay was seven nights – these figures are based on tour packages purchased by US citizens and data from the country's touristy areas.
As of March 28, 2021, 3 142 flights, arrived from 40 countries and more than and 120 airports, landed in the country (39% growth compared to February).
In the last week of March 2021, for the first time in 2021 aircraft loading increased to the levels before the Covid-19 pandemic.
