Thailand after the March 28 earthquake: overview of the situation
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has issued an official summary of the situation in Bangkok following the March 28 earthquake northwest of Chiang Mai province.
As early as 7 p.m. on March 28, the situation in Bangkok was declared as safe, and everyone was allowed to return to their homes and hotels. No state of emergency has been declared in Thailand.
As for the situation at the resorts of Thailand, nothing happened in Phuket, all tourists are vacationing as usual, as always. The situation is also calm at the other island resorts - Samui, Chang and others.
There were tremors in Pattaya, so on March 28, hospitals were temporarily preemptively evacuated, but that was all. There has been no destruction of the tourist and other infrastructure, and tourists are also vacationing here as planned and without incident. Utapao airport near Pattaya is accepting and releasing flights.
In Bangkok the tourist area was also almost unharmed. On March 29, the situation in the capital of Thailand almost returned to normal. Temporarily suspended excursions to Bangkok from resorts should resume in the near future.
Russian tour operators have not received information about Russian tourists injured in the earthquake in Thailand, as reported by the Association of Russian Tour Operators (ATOR). According to the preliminary estimates, there are currently about 2,000 tourists from Russia in Bangkok, about a quarter of whom are organized travelers. This means that they purchased tours in advance according to agreed routes and duration of stay. The Association of Russian Tour Operators (ATOR) reported that there have been no mass requests from Russians to end their vacations in Thailand early.
Russian tour operators have not yet recorded mass cancellations of already booked tours to Thailand. However, the situation may change.
