European tourist flow to Cyprus has fallen
The Russian tourists occupy the second position in the number of European tourist flow to Cyprus.
Traditional European markets "turn away" from Cyprus. This assessment was voiced by the edition In Cyprus. In general, the number of arriving tourists decreased by 0.9% between January and June 2019. The main decline was shown by German market.
Between January and June 2019, the total number of arriving tourists decreased by 0.9%, reaching a total figure of 1,631,023 tourists compared to 1,645,149 ones for the corresponding period of 2018. In June alone, the number of arriving tourists was 509,662 against 511,073 in June 2018 – it is a decline of 0.3%.
The main figure of decline - which the publication describes as shocking – is a fall of 18.2% of the tourist flow from Germany. The number of German tourists in the first half of 2019 was 69,328 compared with 84,785 last year. Also Polish tourist flow has declined by 14%. The drop in the number of tourists from Scandinavian countries, such as Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway was 1.8%.
At the same time, the number of tourists from Russia also decreased by 4.4% for the first half of 2019. And the number of tourists from the UK remained at about the same level as in 2018 (only a slight increase of 0.4%). These main markets of the island remain unchanged during the first six months of 2019, since every second visitor is still British or Russian. On the first line is the United Kingdom with share of 34.5%, then Russia with 18.6%.
