Russian tourists spent about $ 350 million in Azerbaijan in 2019
Russian tourists are on the first position in spending in Azerbaijan among foreign travelers, last year they spent about $ 350 million, according to source on the tourism market.
In 2019, Russians spent 590,2 million manat ($ 347 million), which is 4,6% more than in 2018.
Tourists from Saudi Arabia spent about 268 million manat ($ 157,6 million) in Azerbaijan last year, Turkey - 295 million manat ($ 173,5 million), Iran - 229 million manat ($ 134,7 million) and Georgia – 228,4 million manat ($ 134,7 million).
The most economical in 2019 were tourists from Moldova ($ 2,6 million), South Korea ($ 8,3 million) and France ($ 9,9 million).
In 2019, 3,17 million foreign citizens visited Azerbaijan, of which 2,9 million visited the country with tourism purpose. The number of Russian tourists in 2019 amounted to 840,6 thousand people (an increase of 6,1% compared to 2018) or 29,3% of the total tourist flow to the country.
In addition, in 2019 with tourism purposes, 600,7 thousand citizens of Georgia visited Azerbaijan, from Turkey – 291,9 thousand people, Iran and Saudi Arabia - 238 thousand and 103,7 thousand people, respectively.
Most often, tourists came to Azerbaijan for the purpose of recreation and entertainment – 1,2 million people or 40,6% of the total number of tourists. Last year, 850,5 thousand people arrived in Azerbaijan with business purposes, and 719,9 thousand people came to visit relatives and friends.
The Russians most often visited Azerbaijan with the purpose of recreation and entertainment (391,7 thousand people) and visiting relatives and friends (326 thousand people).
According to the source, foreign tourists prefer to come to Azerbaijan for a period 4 - 7 days (1,2 million people or 43% of the total tourist flow). Last year, 423,6 thousand tourists from the Russian Federation visited Azerbaijan for 4-7 days, 172,3 thousand people for 1-3 days, 120,1 thousand for a period of 8 to 14 days.
