ATOR estimated the flow of Russians to Europe in 2024

According to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) the number of trips from Russia to Europe amounted to 1.4 million, including connecting flights to third countries, mainly via Turkey. In comparison with 2019, the number of visits to EU countries has decreased by 10 times, when Russians visited EU countries 14.37 million times by plane and by car.

It became more difficult for Russians to get to Europe after the EU closed its skies to Russian aircraft in February 2022. In addition, in September 2023, the European Commission banned cars with Russian license plates from entering EU countries. It has become more difficult and expensive to obtain visas to EU countries that issue them to Russians. In September 2022, the EU suspended the simplified visa regime with Russia.
