New Tourism Stars: Candidates for UNESCO List in 2025
The 47th session of the UNESCO Committee will be held in July 2025, where new sites will be selected for the World Heritage List.
Every year, a variety of countries try to get on the UNESCO cultural heritage list. 26 objects became the «stars» of 2024, including those from Russia (Kenozersky National Park in the Arkhangelsk region), Thailand (Phu Phrabat Historical Park), China (the «Central Axis of Beijing» object, consisting of a number of ancient sites) and some others.
The 2025 winners will be determined in July in Bulgaria (Sofia). More than 30 sites will compete for the title of the most valuable. Here are the most notable of them:
• Russia – Shulgan-Tash cave in Bashkiria
• Türkiye – The Ancient City of Sardisand the Lydian Tumuli of Bin Tepe
• UAE – Faya Palaeolandscape in Sharjah
• China ¬– Western Xia Imperial Tombs (1038-1227)
• Malaysia – FRIM Selangor Forest Park
• South Korea – Daegokcheon Stream Petroglyphs
• Iran – Khorramabad Valley
• Greece – Minoan Palatial Centres
• Spain – The Olive Grove Landscapes of Andalusia
• Vietnam – Yen Tu Complex
• Tajikistan – Ancient Khuttal
• India – Maratha Military Architecture in Maharashtra
• Laos – Hin Nam No National Protected Area
• Australia – Murujuga Cultural Landscape
• Italy – Artand Architecture in the Prehistory of Sardinia. The Domus de Janas
• Tibet – Tilaurakot, the archaeological remains of ancient Shakya Kingdom
• Mongolia – Eastern Mongolian Steppes
