In the first half of 2023, tourist flow from Russia to Cuba is higher than in the whole of 2022
According to the results of the first six months of 2023, Russia entered the TOP-5 inbound tourism markets for Cuba. As Ministry of Tourism of Cuba reported, more than 67 600 tourist arrivals from Russia were registered in the country in January-June. This is 45% more than in the same period last year.
Russian airlines suspended flights to Cuba at the end of February 2022 and resumed them only in October. Last year, the Russian tourist flow to Cuba amounted to about 54 thousand visits, having decreased by 70% compared to the record year 2021 (at that time 178 thousand arrivals were recorded).
As tourism adviser of the Embassy of the Republic in Russia, Christina Leon Iznaga said, in terms of the number of tourist arrivals in the first half of 2023, Russia is the fourth largest source market for Cuba. More often than Russians, this Caribbean country was visited only by Canadians, Cubans living abroad, and tourists from the United States.
The Russian Embassy in Cuba predicts that at least 100 000 Russian tourists will visit Cuba by the end of 2023. The Cuban side believes that this figure is quite achievable with the current volume of air traffic, and is over fulfilled if it increases.
