When will Greece be opened for Russian tourists
Thanks to the taken measures, the Greek government curbs the COVID-19 epidemic and successfully controls the spread of infection. All this allows tourism professionals to make first forecasts about the beginning of the tourist season in this country.
According to the data released by the Greek government on April 12, the curve of new cases in the country in recent days shows a transition to the flat phase and the number of deaths remains insignificant compared to European neighbors.
“As a whole, the Greek government today is able to effectively curb the spread of the virus, and recent dynamics data give hope that the situation will finally stabilize by the end of May,” says Alexander Tsandekidi, general director of the tour operator Mouzenidis Travel.
The expert emphasizes that the complexity of the forecast about the start of the tourist season in Greece lies in the fact that the situation depends on the opening of the source markets for Greece.
“Also, the measures being taken in Russia give hope that the peak of the epidemic will be in April,” said Mr. Tsandekidi.
The general director of Mouzenidis Travel believes that in the case of an optimistic scenario, when the situation in Russia and Greece will be stabilized by the end of May, we can already expect the resumption of the tourist flow from Russia to Greece in the second half of June.
“The summer season in Greece will certainly take place. Nevertheless, the tourists should understand that the restoration will be long. The main task of this summer in Greece is to show that tourism is alive,” the expert emphasizes.
