Summer 2020 may become completely “Russian” in Cyprus
As it became known yesterday, Cyprus will not accept foreign tourists until April 30. However, it is likely that not all foreign markets will return to the island in May, which will benefit Russia.
According to sources in the tourism industry of Cyprus, after April 30, the island government will allow citizens of countries with the most favorable epidemiological conditions to enter. In other words, from those countries which now actively fights the coronavirus.
At the end of 2019, the TOP-5 of the entry markets of Cyprus included the United Kingdom, Russia, Israel, Greece and Germany. Traditionally, the number one market for Cyprus is the United Kingdom (more than 1,3 million tourists in 2019). Russia is confidently the second (almost 782 thousand people), Israel is the third (293 thousand people). In Russia and in Israel, extensive restrictive and quarantine measures are being taken against coronavirus. In Greece, a number of restrictions have also been introduced for this. And Germany closes the borders.
The British government demonstrates a wait-and-see attitude: there are practically no restrictions and there are no regulations of public life. In Britain, they hope that with the summer weather – starting in April - the epidemic itself will decline.
And this means that Russia will become the number one source market for Cypriot tourism, receiving all the preferences from the absence of British tourists: a wider choice of hotels, better prices and premium resorts.
