By the number of tourists Cyprus broke the record, the Russians are on the second position
In November, the Cypriot authorities noted another record by the number of tourists - reaching 3,86 million tourists per year. As a result, the country “forgets” the panic over the decline in tourist flows. Moreover, in addition to the traditional British market, the Russian and Israeli source markets occupied the leading positions.
In the first 11 months, the number of tourists increased by 0,9% up to 3 866 447, compared to 3 832 062 for the same period in 2018. At the same time, in November the number of tourists increased by 6,7% to 169 392 compared to 158 685 in November 2018 - the largest number of tourists arriving in Cyprus in this particular month.
The UK is still the largest source of tourists for Cyprus - its share is 32,6%. On the second line is Russia with 13,7%, the third largest is Greece with 8,6%, followed by Israel with 7,7%. The number of tourists arriving from the UK increased by 10,4% in November, while the number of tourists arriving from Russia increased by 8,9%, and from Israel by 59,3%.
As a result, the Cypriot authorities announced that they would be satisfied with the achievement of last year’s tourist goals, including due to fierce competition from the side of cheaper neighboring destinations, for example, such as Turkey, and the unforeseen impact of Brexit. However, in general, estimates are rather optimistic: currently tourism revenues account about 15% of the country's gross domestic product.
