Greece expects to break new record in 2020, but not from Russia
After several years of growth of tourist flow, Greece is planning to break the record in 2020. Such confidence was expressed by Harry Theoharis, the Minister of Tourism of the country. “Thanks to hard work and public-private partnerships, tourism will break more records in both quality and quantity in 2020,” the minister said. According to him, at the moment, Greece notes 3% growth in comparison with 2018. However, he said that the basis of the new strategy for the promotion of Greece will be "quality, environmental friendliness and authenticity of the Greek tourism product." According to the data of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia, from January to September Russians made 14,18 million tourist trips abroad, which is 9,2% more than the same period a year earlier. Greece is on the fifth line of preferences with 561 thousand Russian tourists’ visits. This is 10% less than a year earlier.
