Ecotourism in Kyrgyzstan: a Rising Star of the Tourism Industry
Kyrgyzstan is actively developing ecotourism, which aims to preserve the natural environment and attract tourists interested in close contact with nature. Ecotourism in the country combines mountaineering, trekking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and ethno-tourism, creating unique opportunities for travelers. Popular tourist routes also include national parks, lakes, and gorges, highlighting the country's rich natural heritage.
From July 19 to 27, 2025, Kyrgyzstan hosted the international Gallops project—an equestrian expedition involving 60 riders from more than 15 countries. In August, the Silk Road Mountain Race 2025 took place, attracting over 250 athletes from 41 countries. This event drew attention to the beauty of Kyrgyzstan's natural environment and supported domestic tourism.
The tourist flow in Kyrgyzstan is growing, and in 2025, almost 5 million tourists visited the country in six months, which confirms the growing interest in ecotourism.
The Kyrgyz Tourism Department plans to increase the share of tourism in GDP to 7% by 2030, developing year-round tourism and improving infrastructure.
