Visa-free stay in Thailand for Russian citizens is being reduced

Thai authorities have approved a reduction in the visa-free stay period from 60 to 30 days for a number of countries, including Russia. The new restrictions will take effect on September 15, 2026.  In addition to shortening the visa-free period, Thailand is introducing a limit on entries via land border crossings—allowing no more than two such entries per year—while entries via airports will remain unrestricted.  

The Russian Union of the Travel Industry and the Association of Tour Operators of Russia believe that this will not affect the standard flow of tourists—including those on organized tours—from Russia to Thailand. The measures introduced by the Thai government will impact the segment of independent travelers who spend the winter there, freelancers working remotely, and Russian citizens working in Thailand without the appropriate work visa.  

Such travelers were advised to secure the appropriate visa status in advance and closely monitor current requirements set by Thai authorities. Before traveling, they should verify the permitted duration of stay and documentation requirements.  

Experts do not anticipate significant changes for the general flow of tourists, as the standard duration of organized tours falls within the new 30-day limit.
