Thailand’s Russian surge – not in numbers, but in value
In summer 2026, Thailand received 233,140 Russian visitors – a marginal 0.5% decrease compared to the record summer of 2025. While overall arrivals edged down slightly, the organised travel segment grew robustly (+13.5% in tour sales), and demand continued to shift toward premium hotels, northern destinations, wellness experiences and more diverse itineraries. Russian Travel Digest has compiled the most essential figures and noteworthy trends from the ATOR report to bring you a concise yet comprehensive overview of the Russian market in Thailand.
In the broader Asian destination ranking among Russian travelers (bookings from 1 Jan to 1 Sept 2026 for departures through year‑end), Thailand ranked third, ahead of Vietnam and China.
Key Statistics (June–August 2026)

Note: The year‑to‑date deficit (Jan–Aug) narrowed from –1.51% after seven months to –1.3% after eight, indicating gradual recovery.
Growth drivers:
Organised tourism is outperforming the market – tour sales rose 13.5% even as total arrivals dipped, showing stronger confidence among package buyers.
Premium travel is on the rise – Thailand leads Asian destinations in demand for upscale hotels and luxury experiences.
Tourists are exploring new places – beyond traditional resorts, Russians are increasingly booking Khao Lak, Koh Chang, and Koh Samet, as well as northern provinces and wellness‑focused itineraries.
Winter season looks strong – advance sales are up 20–25% YoY, with deeper booking windows and limited room availability at top hotels for New Year dates.
Main challenges:
Lack of direct flights – insufficient air connectivity remains the single biggest obstacle to more dynamic growth.
On the positive side, Phuket hoteliers have not raised rates broadly, which helps keep Thailand price‑competitive.
