9,16% more Russian tourists visited Seychelles
According to the results of 2019, against a year earlier, 9,16% more Russians came to one of the most elite and expensive tourist destinations - Seychelles. However, this is only compensation for the “failure” of 2018: the Seychelles is still far from the pre-crisis indicators of the Russian tourist flow.
As the National Bureau of Statistics of Seychelles reported, in 2019, 12 403 tourists from Russia arrived in the country, which is 9,16% more than in 2018 (11 362).
In 2018 the Russian tourist flow to the Seychelles significantly decreased (-13,8% compared to 2017). The beginning of 2019 showed further negative dynamics, but since April 2019, the tourist flow from the Russian Federation to the Seychelles has entered a phase of steady growth.
Now, the Russian tourist flow to the Seychelles is still below of pre-crisis indicators: in 2012, 13,5 thousand tourists visited the Seychelles. The share of Russians in the total tourist flow to the Seychelles in 2019 is small: only 3,22%. In total, 384 204 tourists arrived in Seychelles in 2019, which is 6% more than in 2018. The leaders in the tourist flow to the Seychelles are Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, India, South Africa. Russia is only on the 9-th line.
Seychelles for the Russians remain largely a tour operator area: according to expert estimates, at least 80% of Russians choose an organized holiday in the Seychelles and only about 20% do it independently.
Due to the lack of direct or even charter transportation and the specifics of the hotel base (a limited number of high and Deluxe-level hotels), the Seychelles has the status of an exclusive, expensive and elite destination on the Russian market.
