Venezuela: What about Russian Tourists
Amid the escalating geopolitical situation in the region, the tour operator PEGAS Touristik suspended its flight program to Island Margarita in Venezuela on December 1till the end of February 2026. Tourists were offered tours to similarly rated hotels in Cuba. All of this company's clients were evacuated from the island in early December 2025.
ATOR member tour operators who had booked seats on the flights operated by the Venezuelan company Conviasa (which flew to Isla Margarita via Caracas) currently have no organized tourists on the island. The last flight departed from the island to Moscow on January 2.
According to the updated information, there are currently no Russian tourists on Island Margarita or in Caracas who purchased travel packages on Conviasa flights from Venetur Rusia, a tour operator with Venezuelan roots, according to its director, Mr. Kalim D'El.
On January 5, as per information from the Russian Embassy in Caracas, the Russian Ministry of Economic Development officially recommended to skip any visits to Venezuela as well as selling any tours to the country.
The reason for this is related to the US armed aggression and the risk of further attacks in the country. The Ministry of Economic Development also ordered regional tourism authorities to disseminate this information to all market participants.
For those planning future trips, Russian tour operators will offer alternative destinations or refunds. Venetur Rusia, the largest blockholder, will likely only be able to reschedule their vacations.
