Tours in the Dominican Republic compete with the rest in Cuba

At the moment the minimum cost of travel packages to the Dominican Republic in online booking systems of tour operators is 85 thousand Rubles ($ 1,292) for two persons. This is the price for a week-long vacation in Punta Cana at 3* hotel with departure from Moscow in the beginning of March.  

On the other Caribbean destinations, prices are higher. So, tours to Mexico for the first decade of March can now be bought from 94 thousand Rubles ($ 1,428) for two persons, to Cuba - from 98 thousand Rubles ($ 1,489). At the same time in January and February the packages in the Dominican Republic were offered more expensive than for these resorts. Obviously, the numerous special offers for the last two countries led to the redistribution of tourist flows to these resorts. In order to adjust the situation with demand, market participants now have to give more promotional prices for the Dominican Republic. 

However, according to the representatives of tour operators, only an insignificant part of tours is sold cheap. “There is no hard dumping on the destination. The average depth of sales is two weeks, which is not bad for a visa-free country,” says Anna Podgornaya, the director general of Pegas Touristik. 

Recently the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic published the latest data on passenger traffic at the airport of La Romana. In January, it increased by 93% compared to the same month in 2018. The growth is mainly connected in the department with the activity of ANEX Tour operator.
