The Russian tourist traffic to Dominican Republic increased by 81.6%

For the past 2017 Dominican Republic was visited by 240,038 Russian citizens, while in 2016 130,000 Russian tourists arrived to the Republic. This is follows from the latest data of the Central Bank of the country. According to the statistical report of the Central Bank of Dominican Republic, totally 5 million 454 thousand foreigners arrived in 2017, which is 4.28% higher than in 2016. In 2017 the TOP 5 of Dominican Republic's incoming market includes the United States (2 million 146 thousand tourists, + 0.58%), Canada (837.1 thousand tourists, + 8.46%), Germany (264.4 thousand tourists, + 2.35%), Russia (240 thousand tourists, + 81.63%) and France (213.2 thousand tourists, - 4.28%). Among all the countries Russia has showed the largest increase (in percents) of the number of tourists. In 2016 the TOP 5 of Dominican Republic's incoming market was different - it included the US, Canada, Germany, France and Spain. Russia was only the tenth, just after Puerto Rico. Recall the fact that ATOR’s analysts, based on the growth rate of the tourist flow and tour operators' data, predicted a similar result (the fact was only slightly less than the forecast). Dominican became number 1 of the out coming tourist flow to the Caribbean region in 2017 and is confidently included in the TOP-10 of winter out coming beach destinations. During New Year holidays 2018 Dominicans was on the 5-6 line in the list of sold tours according to the data of the three largest online aggregators of package tours. Both market participants and representatives of Dominican tourist office state that Dominican Republic has become a year-round destination for Russians, which proves the success of the flight programs of tour operators not only in the winter but also in the summer season of 2017.
