The diplomat predicted the date of the return of Russian tourists to Cuba
Advisor to the Embassy of Cuba, Juan Carlos Escalona, predicts that tourism on the island "will definitely start" in the autumn, and the introduction of a 14-day quarantine for guests is not planned.
The diplomat was not able to indicate the exact dates, since “this will be a mutual decision” between the two countries, but stressed that tourists from Canada and Russia should fly to Cuba first, because before the pandemic, it was the Russians who were in the second place after Canadians in terms of visit’s number.
According to Escalona, the first resort to be opened is the island of Cayo Coco, as this is the most epidemiologically safe place, but in general, "Cuba is almost ready to host tourists."
July is considered as a possible date for the resumption of flights to Havana, and the country is preparing to launch a “healthy tourism system”, for which new sanitary protocols for hotels and other tourism infrastructure are being developed now.
“I know that Russian tourists really like animation in Cuba. I think that it will be preserved at hotels, but in a different format - more events for a small number of people,” said Escalona.
According to Cuban statistics, last year almost 180 thousand Russians visited the island, which is 30% more than a year earlier.
