Spain hosted more than 1,3 million Russians in 2019
Last year, Spain set another record – 83,7 million foreign tourists, which is 1,1% more than in 2018. According to the National Institute of Statistics, 1,3 million people from Russia visited Spain over the year. Russian tourist flow is growing faster than the market as a whole - it added 6,9% compared to last year. The growth in 2018 was about the same – 6,4%.
Most often, travelers from the UK (18 million), Germany (11,2 million), France (11,1 million) came to the country.
Tourist spending increased by almost 3% and reached € 92,3 billion. Tourists preferred Catalonia (19,4 million), the Balearic Islands (13,7 million) and the Canaries (13,1 million) for holidays. In 2019, 7,6 million people (+ 7%) visited Madrid.
The most popular destination was the autonomous community of Catalonia, which every fourth traveler visited. Favorite places for tourists are the Canary and Balearic Islands, as well as Andalusia.
In 2020, according to tour operators, growth of the Russian market will continue. Many players will again arrange charters for the summer period in the capital of Catalonia, increasing programs and the number of departure cities. A popular destination is already actively sold during early booking stage.
