Demand for Sri Lanka has risen among Russian tourists
About 1 000 Russian tourists are expected to visit Sri Lanka in the coming weeks. Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said the tourists will visit Sri Lanka as part of the recently launched tourism advertising campaign between Sri Lanka and Russia.
“With the recently resumption of direct flights between Sri Lanka and Moscow, more and more Russians are interested in booking seats on all flights departing from Russia to Sri Lanka,” added Prasanna Ranatunga.
During the advertising campaign, there were very interesting offers for Russian tourists. For example, SriLanka Airlines has put forward a special offer "buy one ticket, get another free" for Russian vacationers who are going to visit Sri Lanka during the summer holidays.
The statistics presented the following data: in the first seven months of 2021, 702 Russian tourists arrived in Sri Lanka. So, Russia ranked ninth among the main source markets.
In 2020, before Sri Lanka closed its borders due to the COVID pandemic, the country hosted 49 400 Russian tourists. At the same time, in 2019 the flow of tourists from Russia reached a record volume, and the expansion of Aeroflot's services played a key role in this. In 2019 Russia was the seventh largest market, from where 86 549 tourists arrived.
