For the first five months of the year, Russia remained the leader in terms of tourist flow to Turkey. Despite the restriction of air traffic since April 15, 571,4 thousand Russians have visited the country, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey reported.
According to the Ministry, in comparison with January-May 2020, the tourist flow from the Russian Federation increased by 44%, but became 65% less than in the same period of 2019. In the second place is Ukraine with 423,2 thousand tourists, and in the third place is Germany (280 thousand). Over five months, 3,68 million foreign tourists visited Turkey, which is 14,27% less than in the same period last year.
During this time the most popular destinations among tourists became Istanbul (2 million), Antalya (715,4 thousand), Edirne (384,2 thousand), Shirnak (93,6 thousand) and Ankara (64 thousand).
Since Turkey was actually closed for Russian tourists in May, Ukraine (236,2 thousand) took the first place in terms of tourist flow to the country, Germany (95 thousand) was in the second, and Bulgaria closes the TOP-3 (57,8 thousand). A little more than 19 thousand tourists came from Russia. In total, 936,3 thousand foreign guests visited the Republic in May, which is 96,8% more than for the same period last year.
Most often in May, tourists visited Istanbul (384,6 thousand), Antalya (291,65 thousand), Edirne (97,5 thousand), Muglu (37,4 thousand) and Izmir (20,7 thousand).
