According to Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, the number of arrivals of Russian tourists to Thailand from January to October 2019 exceeded one million, despite a decrease in tourist flow by 2%. This is a record among non-Asian countries.
In October, almost 107 thousand Russian tourists visited Thailand, which is 5,4% more than in the same month a year earlier. As it is expected, in the winter season from December to March, the Russians will make approximately 200 thousand trips per month.
In total, 32,5 million foreign tourists visited Thailand, up 4% from a year earlier. Foreign tourists spent $ 5 billion from January to October, which is 4% more than a year earlier. At the same time, in terms of spending in Thailand, the tourists from Russia are on the third position after the citizens of China and Malaysia.
"The Thai Tourism Board expects the total number of foreign tourists to grow to 39 million by the end of the year, and their total spending amount to $ 6,6 billion. The initial forecast has been reduced due to the strengthening of the Thai currency, which is now considered as the biggest problem for Thai tourism industry," the local press said.
Most often, Chinese citizens came to the country. They made 9,3 million trips over 10 months. The number of tourists from China continues to grow after a sharp decline due to the accident of the Phoenix vessel with the Chinese tourists on the board in the summer of 2018. On the second position is Malaysia with share of 3,2 million tourists for the same period. 1,6 million tourists came from India, which is 27% more than a year earlier.
In addition to Russia, among non-Asian countries, the United States also showed a good result with 915 thousand visitors. On the second line is Great Britain (795 thousand), followed by France and Germany (612 thousand and 666 thousand)
Nearly 600 thousand tourists arrived from the Middle East, which is 45% more than in the same period a year earlier. Here the leaders are the citizens of Israel and the UAE.
