In 2018 the undisputed leader of payments made by Chinese tourists in the AliPay system in Russia became cosmetics shops with an average check of 7,268 Rubles (102 Euros). Such data were obtained as a result of a study conducted by the Russian Standard Bank.

On the fourth position in popularity were purchases in Duty Free with an average check of 5,240 Rubles (73 Euros). Also the TOP-5 included jewelry stores with an average amount for one purchase of 19,017 Rubles (266 Euros).
For comparison, among tourists from other countries, hotels have become the most popular segment of spending in Russia, where the average check was 22,288 Rubles (312 Euros).
On the second line in popularity by spending on cards of foreign banks are clothing and accessories shops. Here, on average, one purchase of a foreigner amounted to 20,428 Rubles (286 Euros). On the third place was spending in fast food, where the average bill was 1,140 Rubles (16 Euros).
Restaurant segment closes the TOP-5 with an average check of 6,248 Rubles (87 Euros).
The fact that Chinese tourists are much less likely than Europeans to pay for hotels in Russia is explained quite simply. Most often, the Chinese pay for booking rooms in advance, unlike, for example, from Europeans who are accustomed to pay after staying at the hotel.
