Situation at Crimean sea resorts is calm; security is tightened — tourism agency
The situation at Crimean sea resorts is calm after a terror attack alert. Security measures have been tightened following the incidents, which occurred on the Russian-Ukrainian border during the weekend, Oleg Safonov, the head of the Russian Federal Agency for Toursim (Rostourism), told TASS.
"I am in Crimea now. My vacation has started today. I can say that additional security measures have been taken in Crimea. There are many police and special purpose troops on the peninsula. The situation at the resorts is calm. Everything is wonderful. I am sure that our security services will be able to defend our citizens," Safonov said.
He said Roustourism did not need any additional recommendations under the circumstances.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had prevented a series of terror attacks, which the main intelligence department of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry had planned to stage in Crimea. Early on August 7, FSB officers detained a group of saboteurs in the outskirts of Armyansk near Crimea’s border with Ukraine. One FSB employee lost his life during the detention. Another group of saboteurs repeated the attempt to infiltrate into the peninsula 24 hours later. Criminal proceedings have been initiated.
"Additional security measures have been taken in popular vacation and recreation areas. Security has also been tightened at vital infrastructure and life-support facilities," the FSB said.
