Russian tourist flow to Austria grew by almost 60% for January-December
The number of overnight stays of foreign tourists in Austria from January to December amounted to 86,8 million, twice as many as a year earlier. The flow of tourists from the Russian Federation increased by 58%, according to statistics from Austrian Tourism Office.
Despite the fact that the number of tourist overnight stays in Austria has doubled, the figures are still noticeably behind the pre-pandemic 2019 by 13,3%. The total number of overnight stays in the country amounted to 121,2 million
The leader of the entry for this period is Germany (48 million overnight stays), in the second place is the Netherlands (9,1 million), the third line was taken by Switzerland and Liechtenstein (3,3 million). The TOP-5 also included the Czech Republic (2,7 million) and Belgium (2,6 million).
Russia took only 39 place in terms of tourist flow to Austria: in January-December, the number of overnight stays of Russians amounted to 115,4 thousand. Compared to the same period last year, the number of tourists increased by 58,5%, but compared to the pre-pandemic 2019, the drop was 88,7% or 905,3 thousand overnight stays.
Most often, foreign tourists in January-December visited Tyrol, Salzburg, Carinthia and Vienna.
