Russia is among the leaders of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka in early 2022.
According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Authority (SLTDA), at the end of 2021, Russia confidently entered the TOP-3 of source markets for Sri Lanka with the second position. Last year, 16 894 Russian tourists visited the island country.
Interest in the exotic destination was expectedly high for the winter holidays as well. Over the first 11 days of 2022, 5 726 arrivals from Russia were recorded in Sri Lanka. In terms of the number of tourists sent to the island, the Russian Federation during this period is ahead of India, Ukraine, Great Britain, Germany, the Maldives, France, Australia, Poland and the USA.
According to tour operators, Russian tourists began to spend more time in Sri Lanka. Thus, as per Coral Travel, the average duration of tours has increased from 9-10 nights to 14 nights compared to previous seasons.
In the preference rating of Russians in Sri Lanka, there are mainly 4* and 5* hotels, but there is also a steady demand for hotels of 3* and lower categories.
