New Year in the Czech Republic is not popular anymore
As the participants of the tourist market told, New Year's celebration in the Czech capital is losing its actuality among Russian tourists. “There is no such high demand as before, when we sent 600 people for the New Year's dates. So, we don’t offer the New Year itself,” says Elena Popova, the general director of the tour operator Old Town. Experts connect this with common figures - in 2019, tourist flow from Russia to the Czech Republic from January to September, in principle, decreased by 8% and amounted to 288 000 people. These figures are from the data of the Border Service of Russia.
Anna Filatovskaya, the director of the advertising and PR department of the tour operator Russian Express, notes one more peculiarity - this year tourists are more interested in tours after New Year’s dates. According to market participants, now combined tours are selling well: Czech Republic-Germany, Czech Republic-Austria, Czech Republic-Austria-Hungary. Marina Petelina, the service manager of ITravex Company, adds: “The Czech Republic is still considered as a budget destination, so tourists go there mainly in the second half of December, and not for the holiday itself.”
Nevertheless, booking a popular hotel for the New Year is already problematic. There are no rooms in 3-5* hotels from the TripAdvisor TOP-10 list. Absolutely everything has been bought up,” said the representative of Hotel Residence Agnes. The same situation is in Golden Well Hotel 5* and Alcron Hotel Prague 4*. You can still find a room in less popular hotels and away from the center. The cost of accommodation starts on average from 100 Euros for two persons per night.
