Mosque will be one of the most popular attractions in Moscow
New Mosque in Moscow, which officially opened on Wednesday at the site of a historic building, will be one of the most important attractions of the capital, according to the official tourist portal of the city which turned it into a guided tour of "World Religions in Moscow."
The opening ceremony of the new building of the mosque, which will be the largest in Europe, held in Moscow on Wednesday. The ceremony involved President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, head of the Palestinian Mahmoud Abbas and other guests.
The new six-storey mosque appeared on the site of the historic building, built in 1904 and demolished in 2011. The area of the complex increased by 20 times, from one thousand to almost 20 thousand sq. M. m. The building can take as many as 10 thousand muslims. The mosque is decorated with the main dome, two large minarets, small minaret and four towers. The dome is covered with gold leaf. Construction of the mosque costed about $ 170 million. The construction was carried out by the offerings of the faithful and benefactors of the countries of the Muslim world, in particular from Turkey, Palestine and Kazakhstan.
The mosque is able to accept people with disabilities. For believers, in wheelchairs, ramps are provided, comfortable ablution and special rooms with big screens.
Earlier, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Muftis Council Rushan Abbyasov stated that the access of tourists, including women, in the mosque will be free. Women, if necessary, will be provided by a headdress and long robe. He noted that the visit to the mosque is undesirable during one of the five prayers that take place throughout the day.
