More Allegro trains to run between Helsinki and St. Petersburg
Finnish rail operator VR plans to increase the number of Allegro trains between Helsinki and St. Petersburg due to high demand.
Today, two trains leave St. Petersburg to the Finnish capital from Monday to Saturday: at 6.40 and at 15.30. On Sunday, the first train leaves shortly before noon, and the second one - in the afternoon.
About 700 passengers arrive in Finland by Allegro trains daily, 70% of them are Russian citizens, according to VR.
According to Finnish media reports, which quote representatives of the VR company, there are plans to launch the third Allegro frequency in the coming week. Time of departure is in the evening.
Thus, with the evening train, Allegro trains will be able to transport about a thousand passengers from Russia every day.
Before the pandemic, a high-speed train ran between Helsinki and St. Petersburg four times a day.
Allegro trains can only be used by citizens of Russia and Finland and only by those who are allowed to cross the border.
