Mexico is planning to open direct flights from Russia

The Mexican Tourism Bureau is negotiating with two Russian airlines to resume direct flights between the two countries, the Mexican embassy in Moscow told RIA Novosti.

As Jorge González, head of the Mexican Association of UNESCO World Heritage Cities, noted, Russian tourists are welcome, not only on the beaches but also on excursion tours: «We have everything we need to welcome tourists from Russia. If flights were to be relaunched, it would be wonderful».

Earlier, Ambassador to the Russian Federation Eduardo Villegas Mejias spoke at a meeting with tour operators about Mexico's hopes for an increase in tourist traffic from Russia. The issue of deportations of Russians from Mexico City and Cancun and flight denials was also discussed. The problem escalated a year ago, when representatives of 14 Russian tour operators wrote a letter to Mexican diplomats. The communication yielded results – problems have decreased this year.

The situation is further exacerbated by the policies of Turkish Airlines, which often denies Russian tourists boarding flights to Mexico. The Mexican Tourism Bureau promised to discuss the issue with the Turkish air carrier.
