How to get visa to Russia?


The citizens of most foreign countries need a visa to enter the Russian Federation. So today we will talk about the visa regime in Russia, visa categories and the documents which must be prepared to receive it.
 
Depending on the purpose of visit the Russian Federation and the purpose of stay in the country the foreign citizens get a visa, which can be diplomatic, official, ordinary, transit visa or temporary residence.
 
The visa can be single, double and multiple entry.
 
Diplomatic visa.
Issued to foreign citizens with diplomatic passports. These are the head and officials of foreign states, the agents of diplomatic missions, officials of consular establishments, employees of international organizations. The duration of diplomatic visa is 1 year.
 
Official visa.
Issued to foreign citizens with official passport: members of official foreign delegations, members of the service staff of diplomatic missions and consulates, military men of the armed forces of foreign states and members of their families. The duration of such visa is 1 year.
 
Ordinary visa.
Depending on the purpose of visit and the purpose of stay of foreign citizens in the Russian Federation the ordinary visas are divided into private, business, travel, educational, employment, humanitarian, an entry visa to the Russian Federation in order to receive asylum or citizenship.
 
Ordinary business visa.
Issued to foreign citizens entering the Russian Federation for business purposes (the meeting with partners, negotiations, consummation of a deal). Ordinary business visa can be single or double with duration up to 3 months, or multiple entry for up to 1 year. It is issued on the basis of an invitation to enter the Russian Federation at the request of the respective legal entity.
 
Ordinary travel visa.
Is issued for up to one month, or on the basis of reciprocity for up to six months to a foreign citizen entering the Russian Federation as a tourist, if he had received confirmation of the tour operator, the information about it is contained in the unified federal register of tour operators. This visa can be either an individual or a group.
 
Ordinary educational visa.
It is issued to a foreign citizen to study at a higher educational institution for a period of up to 3 months. Subsequently, it can be extended by issuing multiple-entry visa for a period of education, but not more than one year for each subsequent visa.
 
Ordinary employment visa.
It is issued to a foreign citizen to carry out their work for up to 3 months. It can also be extended by issuing multiple-entry visas for the duration of labor contract, but not more than 1 year for each subsequent visa.
 
Ordinary humanitarian visa.
Issued to foreign citizens entering the Russian Federation for the implementation of scientific, cultural, political, sport or religious relations and contacts, pilgrimage, charity work or the delivery of humanitarian aid. Ordinary humanitarian visa can be single or double for up to 3 months, or multiple entry for up to 1 year.
 
Ordinary entry visa to the Russian Federation in order to obtain asylum.
It is issued to a foreign citizen for up to 3 months on the basis of recognition of refugee status on the territory of the Russian Federation. This visa can only be single.
 
Ordinary entry visa to the Russian Federation for the purpose of receiving Russian citizenship.
Is issued to a foreign citizen for a period of up to one year, if he got the decision on recognition that the Russian language is native for him.
 
Transit visa.
It is issued for up to 10 days to a foreign citizen for the purpose of transit through the territory of the Russian Federation.
 
 Temporary residence visa.
Issued for four months to a foreign citizen, who is authorized to enter the Russian Federation for temporary residence.
