Foreign tourists leave an average 144 thousand Rubles per trip in Russia

“Foreign tourists spend an average a week in Russia and spend 144 thousand Rubles (1,918 Euros) per person for traveling,” reported the Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation. The report "Assessment of the impact of inbound tourism on the Russian economy" was prepared in September 2018. According to the authors, foreign tourists visiting our country rarely use travel packages, preferring an individual type of trips in Russia. "On average, a foreign citizen spends in Russia 8 days and of which 7 days are for tourism purposes. At one accommodation facility (hotel, hostel, etc.) a foreign tourist usually spends no more than 1-3 nights. And that means that during his stay in Russia he moves between the cities of the country and does not spend all the time at one place," the document says. In Russian hotels a foreign tourist often purchases accommodation with breakfast or without meals. "The average budget of a foreigner's trip to Russia is 144 thousand Rubles (1,918 Euros). At the same time, living spending are about 23% of total travel expenses, 24% for international transportation, 19% for food, 9% for domestic passenger transportation," write the authors of the report. According to representatives of tour operators, travel agencies, accommodation, sightseeing and information services providers, in the industry, as a whole, revenue from services, rendered to foreigners in 2017, amounted less than 10% of total revenues. "Experts associate the development of the industry with the development of inbound tourism rather than outbound. 42.6% of respondents of the industry expect growing of their revenue from providing services to Russian consumers, while 40.9% of respondents expect revenue growth from services to be provided to foreigners," underlines the document. According to expert estimates, 42.9% of spending of foreign tourists for international passenger transportation falls on foreign and not Russian companies. The share of expenses for the services of guides and translators is 12.4%. In the first half of 2018 foreign citizens made 10.9 million trips to Russia. The TOP 5 countries includes China (28,5% or 448,0 thousand citizens), Germany (10,4% or 163,7 thousand), the Republic of Korea (7,4% or 116,8 thousand), the United States (5,7% or 90,1 thousand) and Israel (3,7% or 58,5 thousand).
