Ukraine and EU have signed a visa-free regime

On Wednesday, May 17, in Strasbourg the leaders of Ukraine and EU have signed a document on introduction of a visa-free regime between Ukrainian and Europe. After many years of negotiations, all legal formalities were resolved, and for Ukraine a visa-free regime is now only a matter of time. The document will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the EU Official Journal, approximately in early June. Thus, Ukraine becomes the third among the six countries of the "Eastern Partnership", which has achieved a visa-free regime with EU - after Moldova and Georgia. A visa-free regime for holders of biometric passports has been operating between Moldova and EU since April 2014, and between Georgia and EU - since March 2017. The visa-free regime will grant citizens of Ukraine the right to stay in Europe for a period of 90 days during each 180-day period. If for some reason it will be necessary to stay abroad for a longer period, they have to receive a visa. The document gives the right to Ukrainian citizens only to stay in EU: the right to live, work or study in EU is absent
