Tourist flow from Russia to Sri Lanka in 2019 reached a historical maximum
The tourist flow to Sri Lanka from Russia in 2019 reached a historic maximum, exceeding 86,5 thousand people.
In 2019, 86,5 thousand Russians visited Sri Lanka, which is 34% more than a year earlier. The flow of tourists from Russia broke the 2014 record when 69,7 thousand Russian tourists arrived in the country.
A noticeable increase in the number of tourists from Russia is connected with the expansion of Aeroflot flight program in Colombo. So, five weekly flights in the winter schedule from October 2018 to March 2019 on Airbus A330s are incredibly profitable.
Currently, regular flights from Moscow to Colombo are operated by Rossiya Airlines (a subsidiary of Aeroflot) on Boeing 777-300ER aircraft five times a week.
In order to support tourism, Sri Lankan authorities from August 1, 2019 introduced a free visa regime for citizens of almost 50 countries, including Russia.
