Plus 86%: Russian tourists in Sri Lanka are the only ones who showed growth
The total number of foreign tourists arriving in Sri Lanka in October, fell by 22,5% to 118 743 holidaymakers, compared with October of the previous year. The fall is a result of the terrorist attacks this spring.
The October decline was not as significant as the September one. As the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) reported, in September the tourist flow fell by 27,2%.
Leading travel companies and hotels said that arrivals are being restored mainly due to independent travelers, budget tourists and tourists from Russia. Representatives of the local travel industry also note that group bookings from foreign tour operators, except Russian market, continue to fall. At the same time, Sri Lanka hotels significantly reduced prices. This is actually the reason of the growth in the number of budget tourists and, in particular, from Russia.
Russia was the only country in October, the arrival of tourists from which showed growth. Moreover, the growth of Russian tourists in Sri Lanka in October amounted to 86%, these are 5 761 Russians who chose the beaches of this island for holidays.
