The number of visits of the Russians to Georgia increased by 14% for five months

539.4 thousand citizens of Russia visited Georgia over January-May 2019 period, which is 14% more than in the same period of 2018, according to the National Tourism Administration of the Republic. 

By the number of citizens visiting Georgia for the five months of this year, Russia has moved from second to first position. On the second position are citizens of Azerbaijan, from where 498 thousand people arrived, on the third line is Armenia, the number of citizens of which was 425.4 thousand. 

According to the ministry, in May the number of guests from the Russian Federation increased by 53.2% compared to May of the last year – up to 172.2 thousand people, which amounted to 23.8% of all visitors, whose number in the third month of spring increased by 14 2%, up to 723.2 thousand people. 

In total, in January-May 2019, Georgia was visited by 2 million 988.5 thousand foreigners, which is 5.4% more than in January-May last year. Of these, the number of tourists, who spent more than 24 hours in the Republic, increased by 7.9% - up to 1 million 655.2 thousand people.  

Georgia, with a population of 3.7 million people, in 2018 was visited by a record number of foreigners - 8 million 679.5 thousand people, which is 14.9% more than in 2017. The number of Russian citizens who visited the Republic last year increased by 23.8% - up to 1 million 404.9 thousand people.
