The number of Russians visiting Georgia has increased by almost 20% since the beginning of the year
“In January-February 2018 141.5 thousand Russian citizens visited Georgia, which is 19.1% more than in the same period of the last year”, - reported the information and analytical department of the country's Interior Ministry. In February, the number of Russians who visited Georgia increased against February 2017 by 24.2% - up to 70.4 thousand people, which is a record figure for the last 11 years. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, for two months of this year 885,000 foreign visitors visited Georgia that is 17% more than in January-February a year earlier. Among them 367.3 thousand people were tourists (an increase of 24.9%). 170 thousand people were transit passengers (32.5% growth) and the rest number of 347.8 thousand is the visitors of another category (growth of 4,5%). “According to the number of citizens who visited Georgia, Russia occupies the fourth position after Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey. About 40% of Russians crossed the border through the Darial Gorge”, - the report says. In 2017 7.55 million foreigners visited Georgia, which is 18.8% more than in 2016, including nearly 1.4 million Russian citizens (growth of 34% for the year).
