In January-April 2019, 367.2 thousand Russian citizens visited Georgia, which is 23.1% more than in the same period of 2018, the National Tourism Administration of the Republic reported on Monday.
In April, the number of Russians who visited Georgia increased by 26.5% compared to April last year - up to 113.1 thousand people, or 17.5% of all visitors, whose number in the second month of spring increased by 4.6% - to 647.8 thousand people.
By the number of citizens who visited Georgia in the four months of this year, Russia moved from fourth to second position after Azerbaijan, from where 392 thousand people arrived in the Republic (an increase of 2.4%).
On the third position are the citizens of Armenia (326.8 thousand people), followed by visitors from Turkey, Ukraine, Iran, Israel and other countries. A significant influx of visitors was recorded from Kazakhstan, Poland, Germany, China, the Philippines, the USA, Belarus, and India.
According to the ministry, in January-April 2019, Georgia was visited by 2 million 265.3 thousand foreigners, which is 2.9% more than in the same period last year. Of these, the number of tourists, who spent more than 24 hours in the Republic, grew by 4.8% - up to 1 million 230.6 thousand people.
Georgia, with a population of 3.7 million people, in 2018 was visited by a record number of foreigners - 8 million 679.5 thousand people, which is 1 million 124.6 thousand or 14.9% more than in 2017. The number of citizens of the Russian Federation, who visited the republic last year, increased by 23.8% - up to 1 million 404.9 thousand people.
