During the February holidays Russian spending for travel around the country and entertainment doubled compared to the same period last year and reached 78 156 000 Euros. Most noticeably spending grew at mountain resorts and in the cities of the Golden Ring, according to statistics from VTB's acquiring business.
“During the holiday weekend, the lion's share of Russians’ spending for tourist trips around the country was at catering facilities: tourists left almost 67 million Euros in cafes and restaurants of popular tourist destinations. This is three times more than a year earlier, and 13% more than in the same period of the previous week,” the press service of the bank said.
According to the press service, the spending of Russians for travel entertainment (cinema, theaters and concerts) have doubled compared to last year - up to 6,5 million Euros. This is 43% more than a week earlier.
“The expenses for hotels have also increased, reaching 2,6 million Euros: this is 42% more than a year earlier, and 32% higher than last week. Russian spending for car rent increased 2,6 times and by 85% compared to the previous week. At the same time, the spending for air travel and tours decreased by 48% and amounted to only 3,1 million Euros,” the statement says.
Tourists spent twice as much as a year earlier at the five most popular ski resorts.
In St. Petersburg, spending of Russians also increased by 36% year-on-year and reached 2,1 million Euros.
As it follows from the acquiring data of VTB, the resort cluster of the Krasnodar Territory has significantly increased its revenue. Tourist expenses there increased 2,4 times compared to last year and reached 1,7 million Euros.
The spending of travelers in Yekaterinburg, Baikal and Altai regions has also increased significantly. A slight increase of expenses - by several tens of percent - was recorded in Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod, traditionally popular among tourists.
