In January Georgia was visited by a record number of Russians for the decade
“Georgia was visited by 62,100 citizens of Russia in January 2017, which was a record figure for the last 10 years”, - according to the information-analytical department of the Georgian Interior Ministry. According to the ministry, the number of Russians who visited the country in the first month of this year, increased by 40.3% against January 2016. In January of this year, Georgia was visited by 387 100 foreign tourists, which is 19.8% more than in January of the last year. By the number of people who visited Georgia, Russia is on the fourth place after Azerbaijan, Turkey and Armenia. More than 44% of Russians visited the country by motorway between Russia and Georgia, which runs through the Daryal Gorge. In 2016 Georgia was visited by 6 million 350 800 foreigners, which is 7.6% more than in 2015, including 1 million 37 600 Russian citizens (annual growth of 12%).
