In January-April the number of Russians visiting Georgia increased by 24%
“In January-April 2017, Georgia was visited by 272.1 thousand citizens of Russia, which is 24.2% more than in the same period of 2016”, - informed the Information and Analytical Department of Georgian Interior Ministry. According to the Ministry, in April the number of guests from Russian Federation increased by 16.5% (86.5 thousand people) in comparison with April of the last year. This is the highest April figure for the last 10 years. By the number of citizens, who visited Georgia during the first four months of this year, Russia is on the fourth position after Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey. In January-April, 119.9 thousand Russians entered Georgia through the checkpoint in Darial gorge "Upper Lars-Kazbegi", which accounted 50% of all visitors, who used this checkpoint. In 2016, 6 million 360.5 thousand foreigners visited Georgia, which is 7.8% more than a year ago, including 1 million 37.6 thousand citizens of Russian Federation (12% increase over the year).
