Cyprus is going to host more than 3 million visitors in 2016, including 700 thousand Russians

“The authorities of Cyprus expects to host about 3.1 million tourists by the end of 2016”, - said a senior expert of the Cyprus Tourism Organization Doros Georgiadis. "We can say without exaggeration, that 2016 became the record year for the Cyprus tourism. The previous record was set 13 years ago, when we received 2.7 million visitors. According to the predictions, by the end of this year this figure will be 3.1 million visitors", - he added to reporters on Wednesday. According to him, a significant contribution to this record was made by the Russian tourists: their number of about 700 thousand (or 22-23% of the total) will be a record also. "In 2015, due to falling of purchase power, decrease of Russians tourist flow could be up to 50%, but we could reverse the situation, and the drop was only 16%. In this season, the demand on the Russian market was twice much as we could meet", - noted D. Georgiadis. He said, that in previous years about 450 thousand of Russian tourists visiting Cyprus and they were leaving in the country, on average, 900 Euros each. "Right now, this figure dropped to 700 Euros, but I do not think, that this is bad" – stressed the expert.
