The new easy and cost-effective e-visa system was launched on 1 October (the same day Wizz air company began its service between London Luton and Pulkovo Airport). The e-visa is valid for travel to St Petersburg and the nearby Leningrad region. Passengers can apply for the visa online up to four days before their trip, with the visa valid for 30 days from issue, for a stay of up to eight days. There is no consular fee applicable to obtain the e-visa. Now we have the first results. According to the official data during the first three weeks of October more than 20 000 foreigners turned for e-visa to St.Petersburg. It’s prognosed that there’ll 5 times more till the end of the year.
In two other Russian regions - Far East and Kaliningrad region this experiment is very successful too. Thus 45 000 guests have come to Kaliningrad region during the last three months. It’s planned that since 2021 such practice will be available for the whole territory of Russia.
