Nearly 1,5 million Russian tourists visited Thailand in 2019
Almost 1,5 million Russian tourists visited Thailand in 2019, the tourist flow has not changed compared to last year, the Bangkok Post newspaper reports citing data from the country's Ministry of Tourism (TAT).
"In 2019, 1,47 million Russian travelers visited Thailand, the tourist flow has not changed compared to last year. Due to the problems in the Russian economy and a strong Baht, many Russians chose Turkey instead of Thailand," the newspaper writes.
In total, 39 million foreign tourists visited the country over the year, which was a new record (a year earlier it was 38 million). Moreover, the “jubilee ” 39 millionth tourist became a Russian. Taking into account the recent New Year days, the final tourist flow to Thailand in 2019 is expected to reach 39,8 million people.
"According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Tourism of the country, in 2020 the number of foreign tourists in Thailand will reach 40,8 million (+ 2.5%). At the same time, the authorities hope to attract more tourists from the Russian Federation thanks to charters from Vladivostok, Irkutsk, Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk," notes newspaper.
