In 2023, about 210 thousand Russians visited the Maldives
In 2023, the tourist flow will be 4% higher than in 2022, but the historical record of 2021 will not be surpassed. This is the forecast of ATOR Analytical Service based on an assessment of the dynamics of tourist arrivals to the Maldives from Russia. Russia will most likely retain its first place in the list of entry markets for the Maldives at the end of the year.
According to official statistics from the Maldives Immigration Department, 16 954 tourists from Russia arrived in the Maldives in November 2023. This is 6,6% less than in November 2022.
The total tourist flow from Russia to the Maldives for 11 months of 2023 amounted to 191 617 visits. This is 5,1% more than in the same period in 2022 (182 332).
Market experts believe that at least 19 thousand tourists from the Russian Federation will come to the Maldives in December. Thus, by the end of 2023, the Russian tourist flow to the Maldives may reach 210 thousand visits.
This figure would mean an increase of at least 3,9% compared to the annual figures for 2022 (201 952 visits).
Despite the impressive growth of Russian tourist flows in the first quarter and spring of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, in late summer and autumn the dynamics ceased to be positive.
Thus, already in June 2023, the tourist flow from the Russian Federation was 4,7% less than in the same month of 2022, in July - by 9,7%, August showed decrease of 19,9% compared August 2022. September showed a decrease of 37%. But, from October the gap with 2022 began to fall away - in October -14% compared to October 2022, in November - 6,6%.
Travel market experts believe that a certain cooling in demand dynamics in summer and autumn was caused by a combination of two factors: the fall of the ruble exchange rate and the opening of many alternative destinations in Southeast Asia, where there is also a luxury segment.
