For 10 months of 2023 Russian tourist flow to the Maldives increased by 6,3%
Despite a slight decrease in the number of arrivals for the autumn of this year, Russia continues to be the number 1 of source markets for the Maldives. At the end of 10 months, every ninth tourist in the Maldives came from the Russian Federation, and the tourist flow increased by 6,3% compared to the same period in 2022.
Over 10 months of 2023, the Maldives received 1 520 189 foreign tourists. This is 13,1% more than in the same period in 2022.
In January-October 2023, Russia continues to be the Maldives' largest inbound market by the number of arrivals (174 663). India is in the second place (164 471), China is in the third (163 708). The fourth and fifth places are occupied by the UK (122 614) and Germany (107 472).
174 663 tourists from Russia were recorded in the Maldives at the end of 10 months of 2023 - this is 6,3% more than for the same period in 2022 (164 363).
At the beginning of 2023, the flow of tourists from Russia to the Maldives was a record even compared to 2021, but from the end of summer and in September the increase stopped and a stage of gradual decline has come. However, a slight decrease in the number of Russian tourists over the autumn was also observed in other island destinations of the Indian Ocean. One of the main reasons is the depreciation of the ruble and the rise in prices for tours.
In October 2022, 17 758 tourists from Russia arrived in the Maldives. This is still 14% less than in October 2022 (20 639), but a positive trend towards the restoration of last year’s figures can already be seen. Compared to September of this year, in October there is an increase in the number of Russians on the islands by 39,4%.
