In 2019 Tunisia is waiting for 10-15% more Russian tourists
The tourist authorities of Tunisia and the Russian tour operators have confirmed the stability of the Russian tourist flow to the resorts of the country. By the results of 2019, the North African country hopes to increase the number of Russian arrivals.
According to the Ministry of Tourism of Tunisia, over the first half of the year, the country hosted 3.8 million foreign tourists, which is 17% more than in the same period of 2018.
With the increased inbound flow, the revenues from the tourism sector are growing, which provides 8% of the country's GDP. In comparison with January-June 2018, revenues from the tourism sector increased by 42.5% and reached $ 692 million.
As the Minister of Tourism of Tunisia René Trabelsi commented the obtained results, this year the country expects to host a record 9 million foreign visitors (in 2018, 8.3 million tourists). According to him, the recent explosions in the capital of the country did not affect the demand on the foreign markets: there were no cancellations of flight programs and cancellations of tours.
The Russian tour operators also report about stable situation with sales of tours for Tunisia. Following them, this information was confirmed by representatives of the Tunisian National Office of Tourism in Russia.
According to the Tunisian side, for the first 6 months of 2019, 210 thousand Russian tourists visited the country, which corresponds to the figures for the same period of 2018. However, the tourist office of Tunisia in Russia paid attention to the fact that these statistics reflect only the results of the first third of the summer season. The main wave of Russian tourists flow falls on the period from July to September. According to the representatives of Tunisian tourism, taken into account the existing volumes of tourist transportation from the Russian market to Tunisia in 2019, Tunisia is hoping for an increase of tourist flow from the Russian Federation from 10 to 15%. As it was previously reported, in 2018 about 600 thousand Russian tourists visited Tunisia.
According to the tourist office of Tunisia, this year the Russian market occupies the second position in the inbound flow into the country. Last year, the Russians came to Tunisia for 10 days on average and spent 6 million overnight stays in the country, which is the best indicator among all foreign markets.
