Almost 10,5 thousand Russian tourists visited Japan in 2022
Almost 10,5 thousand Russian tourists visited Japan in 2022, which is three times more than a year earlier, according to statistics of the country's National Tourism Office (JNTO).
Thus, the number of tourists from Russia to Japan in January-December reached 10,4 thousand people, and in December 2022 – 1,6 thousand. In 2021, the number of Russian arrivals was almost three times less – 3 723 people.
In total, more than 3,8 million foreign citizens visited Japan in 2022. In 2021, their number was 245,8 thousand.
South Korea is the leader in TOP-3 countries with over a million arrivals in 2022, followed by Taiwan (331 000) and the US (323,500).
On October 11, the Japanese authorities lifted most of the restrictions on entry into the country imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Since that date independent trips (not in organized groups) were allowed.
In 2019, a record number of Russian tourists - 120 000 - visited Japan, a quarter more than a year earlier.
