“About 9 thousand Russians visited Mauritius from January to October 2017, which is 21% more than during the same period of the last year”, - said at a meeting with tour operators the Director of Tourism of Mauritius Kevin Ramkelaon. "This year from January to October we have already hosted about 9 thousand Russian tourists at our island. This fact shows an increase of 21% against the same period of the last year. We may also add the tourists from CIS countries and the total number will amount about 12 thousand tourists for this period. This confirms the simple fact that Mauritius is an ideal destination for Russian tourists who want to get a luxury vacation", - he said. K. Ramkelaon added that Russia has always been an important market for Mauritius. According to him, the peak of cooperation between Russia and Mauritius was in 2012, when 20 thousand Russians and 10 thousand tourists from the CIS countries spent their vacations at the resorts of this island. He noted that a certain decline due to economic events was in recent years, but now the interest of Russians towards the direction is growing again.
